OMTA Syllabus

The OMTA Syllabus Program is designed to motivate students to achieve music goals.

Students of OMTA teachers have the option of participating in Syllabus, a music evaluation program in which students are tested on their mastery of various musical concepts. These concepts are divided into 10 levels of difficulty and include music theory, sight reading, ear training, rhythm reading, repertoire, and technique.

Participation in Classical Piano, Strings, Voice, Woodwinds, and Jazz is open to students of OMTA teachers.

A student prepares for the exam by studying the curriculum outlined in the OMTA Syllabus Manual.

The program is flexible, offering three avenues of participation: Full Evaluation, Demonstration, and Creative Audition. The difference between these is explained in the OMTA Syllabus Manual. Each student is tested one-on-one by an adjudicator, who provides a written critique of the student’s performance. Students who participate are awarded a certificate. The evaluations are held in private music studios and schools throughout Western Washington County.
